The Patriots Glen golf course is under new ownership. Two Pennsylvania golf professionals, Hugo Mazzalupi & Wes Hollis now own and operate the 18-hole golf course located southwest of Newark and near Elkton, Md.
The course had been closed and the property had been in foreclosure proceedings. It was the cornerstone of a residential development in that area off Old Baltimore Pike.
The golf business has been struggling with the effects of a changing economy that has left businesspeople and others with less time for leisure and the networking opportunities that come from golf outings.
The CecilDaily.com website reported that the course could be opening in July. Rehab work is currently under way and a superintendent for the course has been hired. CecilDaily.com had earlier reported that parties were interested in the course. Patriots Glen was constructed in 2001.
The name is derived from the route taken by British soldiers from the Chesapeake Bay on their way to invade Philadelphia during the Revolutionary War.
George Washington’s soldiers reportedly harassed the troops and battled the troops at nearby Cooch’s Bridge in Delaware before being defeated at the Battle of the Brandywine. The British then took Philadelphia.
