Rockland Place has de-cluttering day

014Downsizing and donating went hand-in-hand, as Rockland Place gave furniture, clothing and household items to three local nonprofit organizations, following a recent spring cleaning.

The effort filled three trucks for Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore and sent dozens of items and bags to Catholic Charities and Goodwill. “One of the services we offer is helping new residents downsize and current residents de-clutter,” said Rita Doherty, executive director, Roc=to take our own advice.

Esther Weik, a Rockland Place resident who spent 40 years volunteering with St. Francis Hospital, applauded the effort. “Donating the items is the best idea I’ve heard all day!” she said. “Habitat for Humanity helps so many individuals in need. What better place to donate than to an organization that does good for others?”

Rockland Place at 1519 Rockland Road in Wilmington, offers independent living, assisted living and two levels of memory care. Rockland Place is managed by Watermark Retirement Communities of Tucson, Ariz.
