An Inspiring Women in STEM program is scheduled for May 8 at the Embassy Suites, Newark,  from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Dr.  Judy Giordan will share some of her tips as a woman in STEM on how to stand up and proudly declare your achievements.

Giordan is partner in ecosVC and co-founder of the Chemical Angel Network

The Inspiring Women in STEM conferences and forums are designed to encourage and support women involved in all aspects of science and technology in their professional lives, including industrial and government scientists and engineers, academic researchers, STEM educators, college students, and entrepreneurs. Jobs using science and math skills often come with higher pay than positions in other fields.

At the inaugural conference in October 2013, hosted by Agilent Technologies in Wilmington, Delaware, over 250 attendees from 70 organizations were treated to inspirational women speakers, breakout sessions, and networking.

The highlight of the event was a  discussion with DuPont CEO Ellen Kullman and W.L. Gore CEO Terri Kelly. The conference participants also explored opportunities to serve as volunteers and mentors at non-profit organizations offering STEM education programs for girls. Conference organizers are currently developing this year’s professional development and networking events to continue the conversation and engagement with women from the region’s biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemistry, medical device and IT industries, as well as STEM educators and university researchers.

Inspiring Women in STEM Forums on July 18th, and a full-day Conference in October will again feature motivational speakers, panel discussions, and break-out sessions focused on developing women’s leadership skills, breaking down communication barriers, embracing their full potential as innovators, and other topics key to career and personal development, according to a release.
