Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware announced   that as part of its annual Ks for Kids program, the company will donate $10 to the YMCA of Delaware’s Water Wise program for every strikeout thrown by a Blue Rocks pitcher at Frawley Stadium, up to a total of $5,000.

“With our annual Ks for Kids program, we at Highmark Delaware have the opportunity to support the community while spotlighting an organization in Delaware that makes a difference in the lives of our children,” said Highmark Delaware President Tim Constantine. “Last year, more than 2,500 children learned about water safety through the Water Wise program.”

The program provides swimming instruction and water safety education, including lifesaving skills, to school-age children who may not have access to a pool. It is free of charge for participating community groups and school districts.

“Water safety is a critical asset for our children in Delaware, and we are so grateful to partner with Highmark Delaware through Ks for Kids,” said YMCA of Delaware Chief Executive Officer Deborah Bagatta-Bowles. “With open access to rivers and beachfronts around the state, children need to acquire basic water safety skills, and the YMCA is there to help. The Y’s Water Wise program continues to empower our young people, instill confidence and save lives.”

This is the eighth year that Highmark Delaware has partnered with the Wilmington Blue Rocks as part of the Ks for Kids program. Since 2006, $41,000 has been awarded through Ks for Kids to six different organizations.
