Thomas Harvey named to UD Wall of Fame

2010-Alumni-Wall-of-Fame-ice-sculptureHarvey, Hanna & Associates, Inc.  announced that  President E. Thomas Harvey, III has been named to the 2014 class for the University of Delaware’s Alumni Wall of Fame.

In recognition of the many notable achievements of its alumni, the University of Delaware and the UD Alumni Association established the Alumni Wall of Fame.

Since its inception in 1984, 246 alumni have been inducted into the Alumni Wall of Fame in recognition of their professional and public service excellence.  Harvey and fellow inductees will be recognized on Saturday, June 7 at the Alumni Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Gore Recital Hall in the Roselle Center for the Arts on the University campus. Previous notable inductees include: U.S. Vice-President, Joseph Biden, U.S. Senator (DE) Thomas Carper, scientist, inventor and businessman, Robert Gore (W.L. Gore & Associates),legendary UD Football Coach, Tubby Raymond, and American  founding father, Thomas McKean, a prominent figure in both Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Harvey serves as President and CEO  of Harvey of Hanna & Associates, Inc. (HHA), a commercial real estate development company headquartered in Newport, HHA owns and manages more than 3 million square feet of prime commercial/warehouse, business campus, industrial site, and retail shopping centers in Delaware and Maryland.

Prior to establishing HHA in 1998,  Harvey built, owned and managed multiple waste management companies over a 25 year span. Included among those companies were Harvey & Harvey, Inc., Home Waste, Inc., Harvey Mack/Volvo Sales & Service, and Confi-Shred, Inc. With Annual revenues exceeding $100 Million, the waste management companies collectively constituted one of the principal waste management and equipment providers in the region.

In 1997,  Harvey merged his companies into USA Waste of Delaware, a wholly owned subsidiary of USA Waste Services, Inc. This parent company, USA Waste Services, Inc., was later acquired by Waste Management, Inc.

In 2007,  Harvey formed Dewey Beach Enterprises, Inc. (DBE) serving as president;  Harvey is currently leading the redevelopment for the Lighthouse Cove Resort project in Dewey Beach, formerly known as Ruddertowne.

The multi-phase, multi-million dollar redevelopment project opened its initial phase in September 2013 consisting of Delaware’s first ever Hyatt Place Hotel; luxury residential condominiums; an expanded public bay-side beach, a proposed conference center; retail shops and restaurants; and both interior and exterior parking to accommodate year-round visitors.

In 2011,  Harvey was awarded the Lerner College of Business and Economics Alumni Award of Excellence by the Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics at the University of Delaware.

Harvey graduated from Conrad High School in 1970 and the University of Delaware in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the UD School of Business and Economics.  Harvey lives in Centreville and  Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and has four grown children.
