Delaware’s unemployment rate for February and March stood at 5.9 percent, the lowest figure since the latter part of 2008.
The rate was revised down was from 6 percent in February and marked the 10th straight month without an increase in the jobless rate.
The last time, the jobless rate was below 6 percent was in October 2008.
A report from the Delaware Department of Labor cautioned against reading too much into month-to-month changes.
” Longer trends matter more, but even there, it is important to look at the totality of the data, and not fixate on on individual statistics,” the report stated.
So far in 2014, Delaware has 4,000 additional employed residents, but 200 fewer jobs.
Charles Plosser, who heads the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, earlier in the year, said a wave retirements by “Baby Boomers” is a factor in the figures
According to the economic consulting firm DECON First, jobs are being created in the state in high-tech areas, but are being filled by those living outside Delaware.
