Tech Forum gets a close-up view of Horn entrepreneurship program

The Technology Forum of Delaware last week  took a look at the Horn Program   at the University of Delaware last week.

Members and guests heard a number of presentations from student entrepreneurs with a with variety of start-ups.

The Horn Program is housed in the Venture Development Center on  Delaware Avenue, just off Main Street in Newark. The center features meeting space for student start-ups as well as office hours for those providing assistance. The center welcomes businesspeople to  assist young entrepreneurs.

Members and guests heard a number of presentations from student entrepreneurs with a with variety of start-ups that included NOE Band  and Go Baby Go Cafe.

NOE is a vibrating  band that would be worn around the wrist and would let the user know he or she has received a  call,  text message or E mail from their smartphone. The presentation brought questions on when the band would be available.

Go Baby Go Cafe is a cafe with equipment that allows people with mobility challenges to work at a food concession.

Go Baby Go Cafe  part of a UD program that is best known for developing mobility vehicles for young  children with disabilities. A Go Baby Cafe  is in the works at the university.

Other presentations included a service that provides high-quality video via a “drone” helicopter and a system that would consolidate social network searches for potential clients and contacts.

The NOE Band is a also a semi-finalist for the Hen Hatch’s competition that is part of the Horn program.

A  final round will take place on Wednesday, April 30. A $50,000 prize pool in start up cash and services will be awarded.

The Technology Forum holds monthly events and presentations aimed at the technology community.

Last month’s Idea Challenge involved presentations on start-up ideas that would use technology principles to help bring businesses to Wilmington.

It was announced that two of the top entries would receive preliminary funding from Downtown Visions, a city organization devoted to the health and growth  of center city.
