Data centers 5Delaware Audubon  will provide their support and guidance to Newark Residents Against the Power Plant, the groups announced.

The groups oppose the Data Centers project proposed for the University of Delaware STAR campus, the site of the former Chrysler plant. Data Centers is proposing a natural gas-fired power plant. The groups claim the power plant will come with environmental problems.

Delaware Audubon supports those community based organizations that look to make a positive environmental impact in Delaware through the promotion of green business development, the release stated.

” Newark is especially important since the residents’ “backyard” is Delaware’s major university where we would hope our greatest thinkers would look for innovative solutions to this global problem rather than fighting for the expansion of the environmentally degrading status quo,” says David Carter, conservation chair for Delaware Audubon.

The Data Centers project, which could carry a price tag of $1.1 billion, would employ thousands of construction workers and hundreds of full-time workers, Data Centers officials have said.
