No one hurt when shots are fired after dispute at UD pickup basketball game

University of Delaware Police are investigating an incident in which shots were fired around 10:55 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19, at the basketball courts on the Laird Campus in Newark.

No one was injured in the incident, which grew out of an argument between two men on the basketball court.

According to police, the argument escalated into a fistfight. One the participants went to a vehicle that was parked at a   space adjacent to the Independence Residence Hall. He retrieved a weapon and ran back toward the basketball court with  the crowd  starting  to disperse. The suspect fired multiple rounds striking one parked vehicle at least twice.

Four men, including the suspect, left the scene in a silver, four-door compact sedan, driving toward Christiana Towers.

The suspect is described as a college-age black male, 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, with dark skin and short hair. He was wearing dark cargo shorts or cut-offs and an oversize white T-shirt.
