David Culver has  been removed as New Castle County Land Use Manager.  The county, as of Monday night, had taken Culver’s name out of the Land Use website.

County Chief Administrative Officer David Grimaldi issued the following statement. “He is no longer with New Castle County. Assistant Land Use Manager Jim Smith will serve as acting land use manager in his place. A national search will be conducted so that County Executive Tom Gordon can find a replacement.”

Culver made a little more than $100,000 a year.

Culver headed the department during the period when the County Council approved a controversial plan for the former DuPont Barley Mill Plaza property. Chancery Court overturned a vote by the County Council  in favor of a plan from owner Stoltz. The project had resulted in a bitter legal battle with a group known  as Save Our County in the area west of Wilmington.

The administration of current County Executive Tom Gordon  joined the neighbors in fighting the council decision.
