  Rick Deadwyler Jr., who worked for the past eight years as the state affairs manager for DuPont Government Affairs’ U.S. Mid-Atlantic Region, has been named director of government relations at the University of Delaware, effective Aug. 1.

Deadwyler, a UD alumnus,  will serve as the university’s primary point of contact for state and local government officials, constituent groups and business leaders, promoting UD’s mission and goals.

At DuPont, Deadwyler has been responsible for advocating for key public policy positions, pursuing business development opportunities, maintaining relationships with government officials and key community leaders, and providing leadership on various trade associations and industry boards.

At DuPont, he served as corporate contribution officer, where he engaged corporate and community leaders in the company’s tradition of philanthropic support.  Before joining DuPont, Deadwyler served as community relations director at the Delaware River and Bay Authority and held positions with the state of Delaware in education administration and juvenile justice leadership.

A native of Wilmington,  Deadwyler graduated from The Tatnall School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Delaware in 1993. At UD, he was a member and co-captain of the men’s basketball team, which earned two North Atlantic Conference Championships and competed in two NCAA National Tournaments in 1992 and 1993.

New CEO at Hologic

Hologic, Inc., a  developer, manufacturer and supplier of premium diagnostics products, medical imaging systems and surgical products, with an emphasis on serving the health care needs of women, announced   Jack W. Cumming has been named President and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.  Cumming joined Hologic in 2001 and served as Chief Executive Officer from 2001 to 2009. Hologic has operations in the Newark area and has its roots in the sale of a DuPont Co. diagnostics business. The company is based near Boston. Cumming succeeds Robert  Cascella, who   stepped down for personal reasons.

 

Former AZ executive joins gas company

BG Group, a British natural gas company,  announced that, with effect from November 2013, Simon Lowth has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and as an Executive Director. The effective date of the appointments remains to be confirmed and will be the subject of a separate announcement.

He  is currently the CFO of AstraZeneca PLC and an Executive Director on its Board. He joined the biopharmaceutical company in November 2007 and is responsible for Finance, Investor Relations, and AstraZeneca’s business in Japan. During his time at AstraZeneca, Simon has helped the company improve productivity, cash management, and capital allocation as it transitions through a period of patent expirations.

Loweth  has been a non-executive director of Standard Chartered PLC since 2010. Prior to joining AstraZeneca,   Loweth worked  at Scottish Power PLC from 2003 to 2007. As Corporate Strategy Director, Simon introduced value-based planning and performance metrics, while moving the company’s strategic focus to organic investment. In 2005, Simon was appointed Finance Director, successfully leading a drive to improve both earnings and cash generation. Loweth  previously spent 15 years working for McKinsey & Company.

Interim GM named at Hollywood Casino

The Baltimore Business Journal reported that Steve Lambert has been named interim general manager of Hollywood Casino Perryville, owned by Penn National Gaming. He succeeds Bill Hayes, who was named general manager of the Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in Pennsylvania.  He previously was at a Penn National casino in Colorado.

 

BL&S accountant named to board

Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, P.A. (BLS), a certified public accounting and consulting firm with offices in Delaware and Pennsylvania, announced that Kathy S. Schultz, CPA, Chair of the Tax & Small Business Department, has been appointed to the Delaware State Board of Accountancy by Gov. Jack Markell. The Delaware State Board of Accountancy licenses public accountants, certified public accountants and accounting firms.

The board also issues certificates to certified public accountant certificate holders. The board ensures that applicants are qualified to become licensed and has the authority to discipline licensees.

Kathy S. Schultz, CPA states, “As a lifelong Delawarean and a CPA for 17 years, I want to contribute to both my chosen profession and to the State of Delaware. I believe strongly in public service and am honored to serve my profession and home state in this way.”

TTM names tech director

TMM, Inc., Wilmington,  announced  the appointment   Bette Daoust, to its product development team as Director of Technology Operations. TMM does video compression and management work.

Daoust has 30 plus years’ experience with designing and developing documentation.

With Cisco Systems, from 2007-2011,  Daoust served as Program Manager and Business Engagement Manager within Supply Chain functions, duties included Management of Technical Projects, Technical Documentation Writer, and Technical Trainer.
