A contractor for Amtrak is in inspecting the Susquehanna River Bridge Monday and Tuesday while also performing survey work along the tracks in Perryville, Md. In August. Perryville is Cecil County, Md. Such inspections are commonplace.

A notice from the Town of Perryville said a lane closing is possible on Tuesday over Route 7/Broad Street near the river as equipment is brought into the area.  The road would not be closed.

The condition of bridges along Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor has been a growing concern, given the age of the structures.

The government-owned railroad has struggled for funding as passenger traffic has grown in recent years. Critics have said the system should be privatized before major investments are made.
