The Delaware Sustainable Chemistry Alliance (DESCA) has formally begun the evaluation process for establishing a regional green chemistry incubator.
DESCA is benchmarking and developing several business models, sources of financing, external resources for outsourced services, and evaluating and comparing real estate options. The organization is working closely with key stakeholders from the chemical industry, government, regional universities, and the business community to assure that DESCA’s opportunities under evaluation are additive to other public and private activities, priorities and investments.
DESCA sees a need to facilitate the establishment of an incubator and support services. “Our region has a high concentration of emerging companies developing renewable chemicals,” says Jennifer Kmiec, executive director of DESCA. “A wet lab incubator with commercialization services will help speed these green technologies to market.”
DESCA anticipates completion of the formal evaluation process for a green chemistry incubator by August 2013.
DESCA is a not-for-profit, public-private partnership formed in 2010 to build on Delaware’s existing foundation in chemicals and bio-based materials. DESCA’s mission is to effectively connect entrepreneurs, industry, universities, and government to facilitate innovation and commercialization of sustainable technologies.
