3 arrested after robbery of Newark store

[Not a valid template]Newark Police have arrested three man in connection with the June 9 armed robbery of the Mi Ranchito food market at 13 North Chapel Street.

During this robbery, two suspects entered the store and, after one suspect displayed a handgun, ordered two employees and a customer to the rear of the store. The suspects then tied the hands of two of the victims behind their backs, and demanded money from the third victim. After the suspects received an undisclosed amount of money, they tied the hands of the third victim and then fled the store.

Using surveillance video from the network of video cameras throughout the business district, detectives captured the two suspects walking on East Main Street immediately prior to the robbery. The same surveillance cameras captured the suspects fleeing the area in a silver Honda Accord immediately following the robbery.

Detectives obtained registration information and located the vehicle at 623 West 3rd Street in Wilmington. Detectives also learned that this vehicle had been operated by Bryant A. Harris, 42, of the same address. Using video surveillance Detectives then identified Harris as one of the subjects captured on surveillance video. On June 13th detectives, executed a search warrant at the home and took Harris into custody without incident.

Detectives developed additional information identifying Cesar Flores as the second subject involved in the robbery. Flores, ,40, was seen leaving his residence at 813 West 4th Street in Wilmington. With assistance from Wilmington Police Department Flores was taken into custody following a traffic stop.

Detectives developed further information that a third subject, Jose Becerra, 37, who is a relative of an employee of Mi Ranchito, had provided information to Flores and Harris Becerra was arrested on June 14th at his residence by Wilmington Police.

Chief Paul M. Tiernan commented: “I’m amazed that criminals commit crime in Newark. Between the expansive network of video surveillance technology and the aggressive investigative work of the Newark Police officers, criminals should just turn themselves in after they commit a crime as they will be caught.”
