Elkton man arrested in connection with three Newark hold-ups

Newark Police have arrested Patrick J. Mattix, 35, of Elkton for a trio of armed robberies during May.

The hold ups include:

May 13 – A victim at a PNC automatic teller machine at Fairfield Shopping Center.

May 17 – A Dominos Pizaa store on Cleveland Avenue.

May 22 – A T-Mobile store on Delaware Avenue.

While investigating the T-Mobile robbery, detectives obtained surveillance footage of a man in the vicinity before the hold-up. Detectives also obtained surveillance footage of a black Chevrolet Cavalier leaving the area of the robbery.

They also learned that about 20 minutes after the T-Mobile Robbery the victim’s credit card was used at the WAWA convenience store on Fletchwood Road, Elkton. Detectives obtained video surveillance from the Wawa where the same individual was observed entering the convenience store. Additionally, detectives observed the same vehicle seen leaving the scene of the T-Mobile robbery on Wawa surveillance cameras.

Mattix was taken into custdy Tuesday night on the 300 block of Nottingham Road in Newark. He is being held on $259,000 bail.

Newark Police reported Mattix has been linked to two additional robberies in the  Maryland State Police jurisdiction and warrants are on file for his arrest. Detectives from the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office, and New Garden Township, Pa. Police are looking into a possible connection between Mattix and robberies in those areas.
