Delaware State Police reported a north Wilmington  woman’s home was burglarized by a man who claimed to be an employee of a water company, and an accomplice.

The incident occurred at 5  p.m. Sunday when the woman, 82,  was home alone and heard someone knocking at her front door. The victim answered the door and was greeted by a white male who claimed to be from the “water company,” and claimed he  was working in the area on contaminated water lines. The suspect stated he needed to access the victim’s basement and asked her to accompany him to that area.

After the male left the residence, the victim realized property had been removed from within the residence while she was in the basement with the man.

Delaware State Police reminded homeowners to ask for identification before allowing any unexpected worker to enter your home. If a worker is unable to produce valid identification, do not allow that person access to your home.
