Chester man accused of attempting to break into dollar store

A Chester, Pa.  man was arrested after allegedly attempting to break into the Family Dollar store, 2082 New Castle Avenue, Wednesday night.

 The incident occurred at 11  p.m. after a passerby called 911 to report a man breaking into the store. A New Castle County Police officer  went  to the scene and apprehended William O. Green, 45, who apparently used a metal trash can lid to shatter the front window of the business, but had not yet made entry. A search of Green revealed he was carrying a folding knife with an approximately 6-inch  blade.

 Green was taken  to Troop 2, where he was charged with attempted burglary second degree, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, and criminal mischief under $1,000. He was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $36,500 secured bail.
