Peninsula Regional Medical Center , in cooperation with Gillis & Gilkerson, is expanding its footprint into the Millsboro, Del. area, citing a  past commitment to operate in the First State.  Peninsula operates a large hospital in Salisbury, Md.

On October 9, Peninsula CEO, Dr. Peggy Naleppa, joined Gillis & Gilkerson officials, state of Delaware, Millsboro and Sussex County governmental leaders to break ground for the new 48,000 square foot Delmarva Health Pavilion at Millsboro.

The center will be in Millsboro,  with  access  off Route 113. “Improving the health of the communities we serve is our mission, and dating back to our certificate of incorporation in 1897 and its amendment in 1963, that includes Delaware and the entire Delmarva Peninsula,” said Naleppa. “We are excited to continue offering the highest possible standard of care to our friends and their families in Delaware. The Delmarva Health Pavilion at Millsboro will make it much more convenient for them to now connect with these outstanding healthcare providers in Sussex County.”

This  complex will be anchored by a family medicine primary care practice of PRMC’s Peninsula Regional Medical Group. Dr. Nancy Squires and her team will be relocating to Millsboro from their current practice location in Dagsboro.

Specialty care physicians and diagnostic service providers are being recruited to create   a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive, one-stop location designed to specifically address many of the health care needs in Sussex County, according to a release.

With  the pavilion’s completion, upwards of 100 new jobs will be located at the site.. “As a local area medical center developer, we are excited to be a part of this leading edge, state of the art, family medical facility,” added Palmer Gillis, Partner. “The greater Millsboro economy will be positively impacted by this facility and high quality health care will become more accessible for the community.”

According to Thompson Reuters, Claritas, Millsboro’s population should grow by 8.2 percent  over the next five years, which is just slightly below the expected 8.6  growth rate for Sussex County during the same time period.

More than  100,000 people are within a 20 minute drive from the center of Millsboro. “The need for a wide range of health care services and chronic disease management is expected to significantly increase in the next half decade in Sussex County, and we’re honored to partner with the local community to provide those services now and well into the future,” Naleppa said.
