Despite, a bout of  high temperatures and storms, Delaware State Fair  attendance  was 259,000 down less than 1 percent. from a year earlier. Carnival gross was up 5 percent when  compared to 2011.

Temperatures ranged from a high of 102 degrees on Thursday July 26th to a daytime low of 73 degrees on Saturday July 21st. Thunderstorms effected the crowds on 5 of the 10 days of Fair.

The unpredictable weather certainly did not keep the concert goers away as the Fair recorded its third best year ever in terms of total gross box office revenue of $2.4 million  with more than  52,000 total tickets being sold.

This came as the fair found itself with competition for concert dollars with the Firefly Music Festival in the same county. The festival is now slated for June and will not be running at the same time as fair, which is held in mid to late July.

An upgrade of the fairgrounds continued, with an  air-conditioned “Marketplace Tent” that housed than 45 vendors and proved popular with both vendors and visitors.
