Sears Authorized Hometown Stores, LLC, which does business as Sears Home Appliance Showroom, has signed a lease for a new 6,683 square foot showroom at Christiana Center, south of Newark and adjacent to Christiana Mall. The mall and adjacent retail area has drawn heavy traffic, thanks, in part, to the lack of a sales tax in Delaware.
Sears operates an appliance warehouse with retail outlet in the vicinity with a showroom and an appliance and hardware store in College Square, Newark. It never opened a department store in Christiana Mall, opting instead to operate a store several miles away in Prices Corner, a shopping center west of Wilmington.
The store is a new concept for the retailer that is working to capitalize on the popularity of its appliances as its retailing operations struggle with stiff competition.
