Delmarva Power continues to repair the widespread damage to its electrical system in New Castle County, Del., and Cecil County, Md., caused by severe thunderstorms that struck the region on Friday night.

Assessment teams have surveyed the damage to help guide the restoration work. Additional crews, including tree trimming and support personnel, are working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power to affected customers.

“At the height of the storm, about 20,000 customers lost power. As of 11 a.m. today, we restored service to approximately 12,000 customers. We plan to have power restored to the remainder of our customers by late this evening,” said Gary Stockbridge, Delmarva Power Region President. “However, there could be some localized outages that might not be repaired until early Sunday afternoon.”

As of 8 p.m. on Saturday, the number of customers affected by the outages was  around 350.

Customers are asked to report outages by calling 1-800-898-8042. Customers can also receive outage updates by visiting www.delmarva.com.
