Delaware is joining a nationwide effort to freshen up the stuffy image of libraries.

The Geek the Library campaign highlights the ability of libraries to give free access to information and news. This is no small issue as newspapers and other organizations erect paywalls.

The “Geek the Library” campaign came from OCLC, a nonprofit library cooperative, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The  Delaware Division of Libraries is  highlighting a series of special events this month highlighting theme that is a key popular culture catch phrase, thanks to shows like “Big Bang Theory” and the fascination with tech giants, such as  Bill Gates and the late Steve Jobs.  CLICK HERE for the entire release from the library system.

None of this means your local library is a dusty corner of your community. Traffic is up sharply as libraries become a key resource iin a brutal economy for both businesses and people.

This has not been lost on New Castle County, where a succession of county executives and councils have continued to invest in libraries.
