Westminster Village, Dover,  recently cut the ribbon on  a $10 million project  that includes a  43,000 square foot, 61-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation center within the continuing care retirement community.

The opening was attended by a large number of public officials in the state.

The new design introduces four individual neighborhoods, structured as households of seven-to-16 residents, a specialized transitional care and rehabilitation center and renovations of common areas.

The patient-centered care model will also enhance the community’s ability to provide a more dignified, sensitive and respectful delivery of service, a release stated.

Each of the new neighborhoods at Westminster Village are designed to be more like a private home to offer improved quality of care, service and comfort.

The dining experience has moved away from an institutional setting. Patients and residents now participate in food preparation and clean-up activities as well as incorporate their familiar, holiday customs.

The new rehabilitation center will include features such as private baths with walk-in showers.

Cultural changes include residents being involved and running their own activities and more personalized care, the release stated.
