Delaware’s United Distributors has a new sign on the door after two family owned operations signed an agreement to combine their holdings under one name.
The Charmer Sunbelt Group and Wirtz Beverage Group are now known as Breakthru Beverage Group, one of the largest wholesale distributors in the United States and Canada.
Breakthru beer brands distributed in Delaware include Dogfish Head as well as Chester County, PA-based Victory.
A recent addition is Rebel Seed Cider, a new hard apple cider brand that is made in Marydel, DE and is affiliated with Harvest Ridge Winery, which is also on Breakthru’s wine list.
The company has operations in 16 markets, employs more than 7,000 people and represents a portfolio of wine, spirits and beer brands with $6 billion in annual sales.
Breakthru is based in New York, has a large operation in Chicago and recently opened a new center in Philadelphia.
United came out of a joint venture, former in 2002, with Charmer Sunbelt Group working with Standard Distributing to open First State Distribution Group. First State later merged with Century Wine & Spirits and Delaware Beverage to form United Distributors.
