The sale of the Hotel duPont and the redevelopment of the DuPont Building does not appear to be imminent.
The News Journal reported that Buccini/Pollin Group, which has been eying the property, was moving toward a purchase.
Cited in the story was a $1 million Downtown Development District grant that went to an entity tied to Buccini/Pollin for the renovation of the DuPont Building.
Buccini/Pollin did not respond to a request for comment.
DuPont Co. spokesman Dan Turner released the following:
“We have not made a decision on the hotel business at this time.”
DuPont, last year, moved out of the building, with Chemours taking its place.
The application calls for a $91 million project that would house the world headquarters for DuPont spin-off Chemours in 252,000 square feet of space.
The remainder of the building will be divided into separate condominiums that include:
- Chemours World Headquarters (Market St. frontage; floors 4-13)
- The Hotel DuPont.
- About 40,000-50,000 sq. ft. ground floor retail including restaurants.
- About 60,000 sq. ft. additional office space.
Buccini/Pollin already purchased parking lots used by the hotel and Chemours.
The company has a large hotel affiliate that owns the Westin on the Wilmington Riverfront and other lodging properties in the Newark area.
The projected tied to a decision by Chemours on the site of its headquarters. The company, which was spun off from DuPont a year ago, is being wooed by adjacent states.
The Delaware Council on Development Finance approved a grant to Chemours for $7.9 million, if it stays in Delaware.
Chemours has indicated that a decision will be made this summer.
