Slights sworn in as Vice Chancellor

slightsJoseph R. Slights III was publicly sworn in as a Vice Chancellor of the Delaware Court of Chancery on May 13  at the Kent County Courthouse in Dover.

Vice Chancellor Slights was appointed by Governor Jack Markell to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Vice Chancellor John Noble. He was confirmed by the Delaware State Senate on March 16 and was sworn in during a private ceremony on March 28, 2016.

The investiture marks the return to the bench for Vice Chancellor Slights, who previously served one term as a Superior Court Judge from 2000 until 2012, where he was instrumental in forming the Court’s Complex Commercial Litigation Division.

After he left Superior Court and prior to his appointment to the Court of Chancery, Vice Chancellor Slights was a partner at Morris James LLP where he practiced corporate and business litigation and chaired the firm’s Alternative Dispute Resolution practice group.

Vice Chancellor Slights attended James Madison University and received his law degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law.
