The Courtyard Newark at the University of Delaware was recognized by Marriott International as a “2015 Gold Circle Award” winner for outstanding guest service. The Hotel had a “Guest Service Satisfaction” score in the top 10 percent  of the 1,100 Marriott Courtyard Hotels for  2015.

Since opening in 2004, the Hotel has earned a major award each year as a consistent leader in guest service recognition by guests via direct feedback from guest surveys and social media comments. In 2008, the Hotel was ranked #2 in the global Marriott Courtyard Brand and received the Diamond Award, the highest award!

Managing Director, Bill Sullivan received the award on behalf of  associates and commented. “It was a true honor to accept this prestigious guest service award on behalf of the staff of the Courtyard Newark at the University of Delaware, they earn this every day”.

The hotel is owned by the University of Delaware, and managed by Shaner Hotels. In addition to being a fully operational Marriott Courtyard Hotel, the hotel is also home to the Hotel Restaurant and Institutional Management (HRIM) Hotel Management Lodging Module Practicum.

In this  program, 50 students each semester are immersed into the hotel operation to gain first-hand experience in hotel operations. “It is a pleasure to have the students work directly with Bill Sullivan and the Hotel staff to assist in providing the excellence in guest service and to represent the University of Delaware”, says  Dr. Sheryl Kline, HRIM Chair.  Academic classes are held in the Hotel in the ALICE classroom, recently built and donated by the Marriott Foundation.
