Tanya Whye, founder and President of Delaware Green Mattress Disassembling & Recycling LLC (MDR) was declared winner of premier pitch competition sponsored by Great Dames.

Whye will receive more than $25,000 in cash and services. She emerged at the top of 41 entries in the competition, according to Sharon Kelly  Hake, CEO of Great Dames.

“We are thrilled that Tanya Whye is the remarkable winner in our premier competent because she is creating a social enterprise that we hoped to encourage through this competition.,” Hake said. On hand to present the award was Delaware First Lady Carla Markell.

Green MDR  is based on recycling and reusing mattress materials in a way that generates revenue, reduces environmental impact and employs first offenders.

Whye came up with the idea for a business while earning her MBA degree in Environmental  Stewardship at Wilmington University.

The event also featured a conversation with Linda Farquhar, founder of  EntreDonovan, Wilmington. EntreDonovan, was a winner in  business competition sponsored by Comcast. The company uses the latest  technology for custom fitting of women’s attire.

Prior to founding entreDonovan, Linda spent more than 25 years in the fields of banking and investment management where she had to wear business attire (by varying definitions) to work every day

The event was held before an overflow crowd  at Pizza by Elizabeths, Greenville.

Hake said success of the competition has led the group to look for other ways to assist young companies.
