Delaware unemployment rate falls to 6.7%

Total unemployment was 29,600 in November, compared to 31,900 in November 2011. The U.S. unemployment rate was 7.7 percent in November, down from 7.9 percent in October 2012. In November 2011, the national jobless rate was 8.7 percent.

In November 2012, seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment was in the First State was 417,200, up from 416,900 a month earlier.

The monthly gain of 300 jobs came mainly from increases in retail trade, transportation, warehousing and utilities, and Professional and Business Services.

Since November 2011, Delaware’s nonfarm jobs have increased by 2,000, a rise of 0.5%. Nationally, jobs during that period increase 1.4 percent.. Over the past twelve months, the job gains in Delaware were in leisure and hospitality, up 1,900, transportation, warehousing and utilities at plus 1,700, and education and health, up 1,500.

Earlier Amazon.com opened a new distribution center in Middletown, while retaining its site in New Castle.

The largest over-the-year job losses were in Construction at -1,600, Professional and Business Services, down 1,500, and State Government minus 1,400.
