The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced lane closures will take place along the Reedy Point Bridge near Delaware City.

Lane closures will begin on or about May 28  and last through mid-August as part of ongoing repair work to the bridge over the C&D Canal.

The Army Corps contractor is making repairs to the bridge piers and miscellaneous steel repairs. The purpose of the repair work is to improve the overall condition of the bridge.

The work comes as the St. Georges Bridge on Route 13 is closed for a long-term construction project.

Lane closure updates will be reported to the Delaware Department of Transportation, and are expected to be as follows:

  • May 28 to mid-August: Traffic will be restricted to one lane but will be permitted to continue in both directions using temporary traffic signals. These lights will operate continuously during this period.

The Reedy Point Bridge is a cantilever truss bridge that carries two lanes of Delaware Route 9 over the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal.
