Delaware State Senator Hocker and Rep. Gray, both Sussex County Republicans will host what is billed as a public hearing on offshore wind in Maryland on May 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Indian River High School, Dagsboro

“We are looking for a big crowd at this hearing to stop power coming ashore in Delaware and stop the Maryland Offshore Wind” project,” the Town of Fenwick Island posted on its website. The town government has used social media and its website to air its opposition to the US Wind project.

On hand will be representatives from DNREC and US Wind, along with Dave Stevenson and Geoff Pohanka of the Caesar Rodney Institute, a conservative public policy group based in Glasgow that opposes offshore wind projects up and down the East Coast.

Pohanka is a Maryland auto dealer and a climate change skeptic. Stevenson has been involved in opposing wind projects in Massachusetts and other states.

Remote access to the meeting will not be available.

USWind is developing developing the Marwin project of the coasts of Maryland and Delaware and has proposed that power lines come ashore in Delaware.

Fenwick and some residents of other coastal communities have opposed offshore wind citing costs and the alleged loss of tourist dollars damage to coastal vistas. Also aired have been unproven allegations over the projects putting sea life, including whales in jeopardy.

According to offshore wind backers, the event is not a public hearing, but will instead serve as a forum to rally opposition.

The Caesar Rodney Institute (CRI) last year held events related to a state mandate to require 80% of vehicles sold in the state in 2035 to be all-electrics, with the remainder being hybrids.

DNREC went on to modify the mandate that stopped short of California standards that were opposed by CRI, auto dealers and Republican legislators.
