In 2024, Wawa plans to open more than 70 new stores, including first stores in three new states of Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina. Openings are coming in the Midwest in the coming years as well as central and western Pennsylvania.

Wawas are mainly located in the Mid-Atlantic and Florida. Delaware has more than four dozen stores. The store count is now above 1,000. Most new stores have gas pumps, although the company builds and overhauls locations on smaller lots. Many new stores have Tesla charging stations for battery/electric vehicles.

Every new store generates at least 35 new local long-term positions.

Wawa store locations are approximately 5,000 square feet with a built-to-order, fresh-food kitchen featuring its hoagies (80 million sold annually) and newcomers such as pizza and burgers. Catering is also offered.

Since 2014, Wawa and The Wawa Foundation have contributed more than $150 million to nonprofits in the areas of health, hunger and everyday heroes. First responders are honored at store grand openings.

Wawa, Inc., a privately held company, began in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey and later became a dairy in the Delaware County, PA town of the same name. The company was founded and remains with the Wood family, although employees own a large chunk of the company through a stock plan.
