A Rite Aid store in the Kent County town of Harrington is the latest on a closing list filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Jersey

The Kent County location was one of 77 stores listed in a court document and follows earlier store closings, mainly in northern Delaware..

Rite Aid filed for Chapter 11 protection due to decades of financial problems, failed acquisitions of drug chains and the threat of settlements over allegations of overprescribing opioids.

The closings have raised concerns around the nation about drug store deserts. Walgreens, the largest drug store chain in Delaware, has aso closed a few stores, including a popular location on Main Street in Newark. Another factor has been a shortage of pharmacists.

A few independent drugs stores have emerged in Delaware as alternatives to the chains.
