Delaware’s jobless rate in December remained stuck at 4.2%, unchanged from November 2023.
The number of unemployed Delawareans was 21,700 compared to 23,000 in December 2022, the Delaware Department of Labor reported.
The nation’s jobless rate was 3.7% in December 2023, unchanged from November 2023. In December 2022, the US unemployment rate was 3.5%, while Delaware’ came in at 4.6%.

In December 2022, Delaware’s total nonfarm jobs increased by 9,600, up 2%. Nationally, jobs during that period increased by 1.9%.
In its monthly commentary, the labor department took note of the increase in weekly paychecks to an average of more than $31.50 an hour.
The department also reported that much of the job growth in 2023 took place in two sectors, private education-health care and hospitality.
Employment figures may change in the next month or two as estimates are replaced by reports from employers.
