The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a massive fire at a Cecil County manufacturing plant.

Just after 1 a.m., on Monday, firefighters were dispatched to 505 Blue Ball Road near Elkton for a building fire. Firefighters arrived to find Tiffin Mats ablaze.

More than 100 firefighters from fire departments from Cecil and Harford counties, including departments from nearby Pennsylvania and Delaware, assisted. It took nearly two hours to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported.

The business in the Triumph Industrial Park occupies approximately 10,000 square feet. It manufactures athletic sports mats, including cheer, tumbling, and folding mats.

Investigators will be assisted by certified fire investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), an agency called in for major fires. The use of excavators will be considered to assist in moving heavy debris that could help investigators determine a cause.

An estimated dollar total has not been established at this time, according to the Fire Marshal’s Office.
