Suspect charged after thefts of Verizon copper wire

Delaware State Police have arrested Brian Paraskiewicz, 35,  of Wilmington, on charges related to the theft of copper wire.

Detectives have been investigating thefts of copper wire from Verizon in New Castle County since January.

Suspects climbed utility poles to cut and remove the copper wires, leading to internet and phone outages for Verizon customers. In once instance on March 10, Delaware State Police Troop 2 Property Crimes Detectives were called to Kirkwood Highway and Newport Gap Pike for another report of copper wire theft. During months of investigation, detectives identified Paraskiewicz as one of the suspects.

On July Wednesday, Paraskiewicz turned himself in at Troop 2, Bear. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on a $7,500 unsecured bond.

The Troop 2 Property Crimes Unit is investigating this incident. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact Detective D. Patterson at 302-365-8471.
