Police seek potential victims in Facebook Marketplace fraud case

New Castle County Police have charged Heather Distefano, 45, of Wilmington, with multiple counts of theft following an investigation into an online scam.

Police stated that Distefano would then block the victim on all forms of social media. So far two investigations have been made into incidents involving Destefano.

Facebook Marketplace allows users to buy and sell merchandise at no charge..

According to a release, police are aware of an online group where victims have disclosed similar cases identifying the same suspect.

Any individual who wants to provide information about Heather Distefano/Jablonski or who may be a victim is asked to contact the New Castle County Division of Police at (302) 573-2800. Tipsters may also call Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333 or visit Facebook (IM) at the New Castle County Division of Police site.

Police advise that individuals buying at such sites should not make payments in advance and should take care in picking locations to pick up the items. Armed robberies have also been known to occur in connection with such transactions.
