Middletown ranked as fifth best family town in nation

Middletown, was ranked as the fifth best town in the nation for families, according to Fortune.com website.

Factors in the ranking included Middletwon’s public school system, events like the Peach Festival and a low crime rate.

The  Appoquinimink district boasts high graduation rates and top SAT scores. Appo is aided by the state’s school aid formula that allocates a set amont of money for each student. That formula aids fast-growing growing districts. Also, voters also routinely approved bond issues for new schools.

Middletown received the ranking, even though the town does not have a hospital or college campus.

New amenities include a new publicl library and YMCA.

Ranking first was Cambridge, MA, home of Harvard University. Two other top communities in the region in the top 50 were Washington, D.C. suburbs of Silver Spring, MD and Alexandria, VA and Bensalem, PA.

Nearly 1,900 cities across the country were surveyed for the report health care, education, and resources for seniors.

One town in every state was included on the list.
