Expect busy parking lots at your local Wawa on Thursday.

April 13th is Wawa Day, with free coffee for customers to mark the 59th anniversary of the convenience chain that is nearing the 1,000-store mark.

A special event was held at the Wawa near ChristianaCare’s Newark Campus off Ogletown-Stanton Road. A check for $50,000 will be presented to the Children’s Miracle Network.

The donation celebrates the kindness of customers and associates.

Wawa opened its first convenience store in 1964, and on the same day in 2014, Wawa launched The Wawa Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

As part of the anniversary celebration, Wawa asked customers to share stories that celebrate store teams and associates who brighten days.

For every story received, Wawa made a $50 donation, up to $50,000, to Children’s Miracle Network for patients and families receiving care. Wawa’s Newark-area store was one of ten locations that is being recognized with an event on Wawa Day

Customer Judy Dorfman nominated the associate T-Tee from the Newark-area store for her kindness during a very difficult time.

Additionally, each of Wawa’s stores will recognize a special Customer Day Brightener who goes out of their way to improve the lives of the store team and fellow customers.

A special video campaign celebrating these stories and inspiring positivity and kindness. You can view the video HERE that features Dorfman and T-Tee.
