Wawa kicks off summer hiring campaign

Wawa, Inc., launched hiring efforts for the summer season with the goal of hiring close to 1,500 new associates for roles at every Wawa store at Delaware and other beach areas.  Recruiting also continues at stores in its expanding footprint in Delaware and elsewhere.

With more than 60 stores located in beach resort areas preparing for the summer season, the recruiting campaign will continue through the summer.

This annual employment effort is focused primarily on filling the seasonal jobs needed to support summer store operations and recruit more year-round staff.

“Summertime is an exciting time at Wawa stores. We are looking for associates who want to be part of a company known for great food and customer service, and also one with a special culture and commitment to making days a little bit brighter” said Amanda Wynne, director of Store Operations. “Anyone who visits Wawa knows that it’s our amazing associates who create a wonderful, positive environment every day that truly makes Wawa special to our customers and communities.”

Wawa Associates earn a starting wage for hourly store Associates of $15 per hour. Every Associate receives a free Wawa Shorti Hoagie per shift and a discounted associate menu. All full-time and part-time associates get a  package of financial and personal benefits that include health and wellness benefits, tuition reimbursement an annual 401(k) match. In addition to generous benefits, Wawa shares ownership with associates through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).

All Wawa associates age 18 or over who meet the other eligibility requirements of the ESOP will be eligible for the ESOP on the first day of the month after they are hired and will be eligible for a contribution if they work 1,000 hours in a year. 

The ESOP is provided to associates at no cost and is in addition to other benefits including 401(k) match. Today, Wawa is nearly 38% owned by Associates through the ESOP. Wawa’s ESOP ranks as one of the top-10 largest ESOPs in the country.

Wawa remains under the control of the founding Wood family, which also has ties through marriage to the duPont family. The company’s CEO comes from outside the family at the company based in Delaware County, PA.
