Fedale charitable fund roof upgrade, state energy program bring hope to Dagsboro family

G. Fedale Roofing – Roofs from the Heart Charitable Fund, is providing a new roof to a resident in Sussex County as well as energy efficiency upgrades through the Energize Delaware-Empowerment Grant.

Donna Robbins, moved back to Delaware in 2015 to take care of her aging mother at the homestead which has been in the family since 1945. After her mother’s passing in 2017. Donna wanted to keep the house in the family.

Robbins now is raising 4 grandkids on her own. Meanwhile, at the home. roof leaks, insulation issues, inefficiencies in the heating and cooling of the home have presented challenges.

Donna sought help through Roofs from the Heart and applied for a new energy upgrade through the nomination and application process. After a review of the application, and home visit The Empowerment Grant-Roofs from Heart awarded a new roof and energy upgrades to Donna and the four grandchildren who live with her. 

Roofs from the Heart, Roof and Resilient Homes Grant is focused on providing repairs or a new roof installation for single-family dwellings owned by individuals in the state of Delaware.

In addition to repair or replacement of the roof other energy efficiency services will be provided based on a comprehensive energy audit of the home. This award in Sussex County is the first of three awards that will be given in the next six months. 

According to Jim Purcell, director of Development for the Empowerment Grant, giving the gift of secure roof, better insulation and efficient heating and cooling for homes like this, we can ease energy burden and create healthier and safe homes for many families in need.”
