Delaware sees uptick in Covid-19 cases as death toll rises to 3,265

Delaware saw an uptick in Covid-19 hospital stays and 12 additional deaths in the weekly report from the Delaware Division of Public Health.

There were five new deaths reported in the last week and seven new deaths reported after a review of vital statistics between December and January.

The individuals ranged in age from their 50s to 100s. Of that number, 12 had underlying health conditions, and eight were fully vaccinated. No figures were available on those who had received booster shots. Eight of those who died were from New Castle County, two were from Kent County and two were from Sussex County.

Delaware’s total number of Covid-related deaths stands at 3,265, the equivalent of the population living within the corporate limits of Lewes.

Hospitals in Delaware have been busy, due to a combination of respiratory illnesses that include flu and Covid-19.

Other Numbers:

  • 140.6 new positive cases in the 7-day rolling average (up 5.5 from the previous week). The overall total number of positive cases is 326,847.
  • 173 people were hospitalized as of Tuesday, Jan. 31, (up 15 from the previous week), including 10 in critical condition.
    • 13.6% of total tests were positive in the seven-day rolling average (down 0.9 percentage points from the previous week).
  • 73.2% of Delaware residents have completed the primary vaccine series (according to the CDC Vaccine Tracker, which is updated on Thursdays).
  • 20.9% of Delaware residents ages five and older have received an updated bivalent booster dose (according to the CDC Vaccine Tracker, which is updated on Thursdays).
