LC Construction, a subsidiary of Capano Management, north Wilmington, marked the completion and opening of the Academia Antonia Alonso Charter School, Newark. The dual-language charter school serves bilingual, biliterate and multicultural children in grades K-5.
Located at 300 N. Wakefield Drive, the new 115,000 square foot Spanish-immersion charter school was formerly the site of a Comcast call center. Capano Management leased and fully renovated the site in nine months, enabling the school to welcome students in September.
Antonia Alonso Charter School selected the site for its location in the Christiana School District, where the majority of the school’s students reside. The site was also larger than the school’s previous location on Lancaster Pike, helping the school achieve its goal of increasing enrollment in the coming years.
Capano completed extensive interior and selective exterior updates to the facility, including installation of a new commercial kitchen; updated HVAC unit; upgrades to the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems; and replacement of all common area floor finishes, ceilings and lighting.
“As a third-generation developer, our team takes great pride in working with organizations who are making a positive impact in our communities,” said Zachary Busby, director of marketing at Capano Management. “We understood the urgency of this project and were able to complete it on time and on-budget despite significant supply chain challenges. We are thrilled to help Antonia Alonso Charter School fulfill their vision while also meeting the needs of our local student community.”
