Delaware jobless rate down slightly to 4.3%

Delaware’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in September dipped slightly to 4.3%, from 4.5% in August of last year, well above the national average.

The Delaware Department of Labor reported 21,300 unemployed Delawareans in September compared to 24,900 during the same month last year.

The nation’s unemployment rate was 3.5% in September, down from 3.7% in August, In September 2021, the nation’s unemployment rate was 4.7%, while Delaware’s rate was 5%.

In September 2022, seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment was 461,200, down from 464,100 in August 2022.

Since September 2021, Delaware’s total nonfarm jobs have increased by a net gain of 10,800, an increase of 2.4%. Nationally, jobs during that period increased by 3.7%.

State labor officials say a contributing factor to Delawarefigures lagging national numbers was slow growth in its total labor force.

While job growth nationwide rose more than two percent, Delaware’s labor force grew by only three-tenths of one percent.
