The Grand in downtown Wilmington has postponed its New Year’s Eve event, citing concerns over Covid-19 varients.

“This concert was intended to be a joyful return to live performance by all three organizations, but that will need to wait until it is safe to gather in such large numbers again,” a social media post from the nonprofit organization stated.

“On behalf of everyone at The Grand Opera House, the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, and OperaDelaware, we apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience this may cause. You will be contacted next year with information about your options relating to your tickets. Please do not call The Grand until you’ve received information about the next steps. Thank you for your support and understanding as we continue to navigate the unexpected implications of these new variants. We remain thankful for your support.”

The nonprofit Grand, which includes The Playhouse on Rodney Square, has been stricter than other venues, requiring masks, proof of vaccination. or recent tests when attending concerts and plays.

The State of Delaware has no mask requirements outside of its own government buildings.
