Covid update: 4 deaths, 806 new cases

The Delaware Divison of Public Health reported more than 800 new cases of Covid-19 in its Thursday summary. New daily cases have quadrupled from earlier in the fall.

Four deaths were reported, two from New Castle County and two from Kent County, ranging in age from their 40s to 80s

All had underlying health conditions, and two were unvaccinated. The unvaccinated have accounted for between 70 and 80% of deaths and hospitalizations.

Delaware’s total number of Covid-related deaths rose to 2,210.

• 806 new positive cases, bringing the overall total to 158,600. The cumulative breakdown by county: New Castle, 89,970 cases; Kent, 29,428; Sussex, 38,747; county not yet determined, 455. Most cases come from the faster-spreading Delta variant.

• 36.5% of people tested positive in the 7-day rolling average (down 1.3 percentage points from the previous day), and 9% of total tests were positive in the seven-day rolling average (unchanged from the previous day).

• 318 current hospitalizations (up 11 from the previous day, including 23 individuals in critical condition.

• 1,279 people who tested negative, bringing the total to 748,646.• 609,215 people fully vaccinated (up 1,597 from the previous day), according to the CDC Vaccine Tracker.

• 1,496,481 total vaccine doses administered (up 8,644 from the previous day), according to the CDC Vaccine Tracker.
