M&T Bank recently launched a new Spanish-language version of the website.

As part of the change, M&T has designated some branches as “multicultural,” meaning those branches have bilingual staff and resources that reflect the other dominant languages in the area.

The bank is also offering financial education courses in Spanish and is developing the capability to schedule online/digital bank appointments in Spanish.

“At M&T, we are building a culturally fluent bank by creating culturally meaningful interactions and experiences for our customers wherever they do their banking. The launch of our Spanish-language website this summer is a powerful tool we can use to create those experiences for our Hispanic and Latino customers, but it isn’t the only tool,” stated David Femi, M&T Bank, manager of Multicultural Banking and Community Affairs. “We also plan to offer financial education training and the ability to set online appointments in Spanish as well as other languages. The bank also employs bilingual employees in many of its branches that are designated as multicultural banking centers – including two Delaware branches in Elsmere and Georgetown. As the Hispanic and Latino population in Delaware continues to grow, M&T will continue to build on the products and services that meet the needs of our multicultural customers and help them generate community wealth.”

M&T noted that the 2020 Census shows the growth of the Hispanic community in the state and region. For example, the percentage of Delaware’s population identifying as Hispanic or Latinx increased from 8.2% in 2010 to 9.6% in 2020.
