McDonald’s, the owner/operator Michael Meoli, and guests broke ground Monday at Delaware’s newest McDonald’s in Camden.

Located at 60 East St. near Route 13 and Voshell Mill Road, the Camden store will be his company’s  25th McDonald’s franchise in Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

The restaurant will feature self-order kiosks, digital menu boards, contemporary décor, and upgraded seating.  A pickup window will be used for drivers who deliver McDonald’s items.

The Camden McDonald’s is the first new construction McDonald’s restaurant in Kent County in more than 20  years. The restaurant near Dover is expected to employ more than 60.

Construction of the Camden store comes after an in-store Walmart location was closed.

To the north, a food court location at Christiana Mall was shuttered as part of a corporate effort to move to free-standing locations with features such as self-order kiosks and expanded drive-thrus.

Unlike Camden, no free-standing replacement store has been built in the busy Christiana Mall area.

Construction of the new  McDonald’s is expected to take three to four months.
