Number two in total tax burden

Not everyone would agree with this finding but the Wallet Hub website ranked Delaware is in second place when it comes to the total tax burden.

The lowest tax burden is ranked No. 1, with Delaware second. Alaska, which uses oil revenues to lower tax rates took the top spot. In 51st is Illinois.

Many other surveys prefer to focus on the state’s high personal income tax rate.

Delaware’s overall taxes rank lower than Washington and Texas, two states without an income tax. Washington hits taxpayers hard with sales and excise taxes, while property taxes are high in Texas.

Delaware relies on corporate fees and income taxes for much of its revenue, with property taxes low and the sales tax non-existent.
