Bausum and Duckett Electric LLC, recently celebrated its 60th year in business.

The company is based in Edgewater, MD and has a second office in Delmar, DE

“When we purchased Bausum and Duckett we were well aware of its legacy and our responsibility to protect it,” said Mark Llewellyn, who bought the business with then-co-workers, now co-owners, Thomas Luc and John Dorsey in June 2011. “Having watched the constant expansion of both the services we offer and where we offer them, we also wanted to make sure that we kept growing as smartly as possible.”

In their nine years of ownership, Llewellyn, Luc, and Dorsey are  continuing to lead the company that began as a small residential repair shop in Edgewater into a regional company operating in  Maryland, Delaware, Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia.

To ensure that Bausum and Duckett has the ability to go after and complete such work, its owners have also built on a tradition of constantly investing in the development of its workforce.

“We know that our employees are what has made and will continue to make our growth and success possible,” said Llewellyn. “We also know that the field is constantly developing, so we do all that we can to not only keep our employees as educated as possible but also help them grow with the company, just as we did.”

Among these efforts, Bausum and Duckett has supported and recruited hundreds of apprentices through Association of Builders and Contractors and the Independent Electrical Contractors four-year apprenticeship programs; regularly participates in annual career fairs throughout Anne Arundel, Montgomery, and Sussex County, as well as D.C.; and provides its employees with ongoing training and continuing education opportunities.

Bausum & Duckett has been on the Eastern Shore for 45 years. The company  started in Cambridge MD in 1975, moved to Salisbury in 1995, and finally found a  permanent home in Delmar in 2001.

The company has more than  100 total employees, with 18 full-time employees in Delaware.

John Dorsey, co-owner and manager of all Eastern Shore operations said the Delmar office’s most interesting project was the Wallops Island launch pad OA.

“Although the project was not located in Delaware, I think of it as our most memorable and meaningful ‘Delaware projects,’  because over 60 percent  of our employees who worked on the project were Delawareans,” Dorsey said. “It was great to see them apply both their electrical expertise and work ethic to a facility that’s not only eye-catching but essential to space exploration. In addition, I’m proud to share that we won numerous awards for the project, including the Judge’s Award from Associated Builders and Contractors and the National Best Industrial Project under $10 million Award from Independent Electrical Contractors.”
